Mechelen, a sweet taste with fun for children

Photos Mechelen, Teo at the Cathedral
This story is very similar to when you open a box of Neuhaus and delight with its classic pralines. You recognize its taste and you love, is sublime and so I relames pleasure. However, one day dare you try that you are not so familiar. Catch value, give the pitch and enjoy surprises ... even more with him than with the others because of that sweetness is a mixture of unknown sensations but with a smack your palate has tasted before.
After two trips to Flanders where we had the opportunity to stroll calmly by his most famous pearls, we can ensure that the city has surprised us was Mechelen. He lives in the shadow of its neighboring Bruges, Ghent, Leuven and Antwerp, but has that atmosphere of city that has not yet been developed for mass tourism despite having ample charms.

Mechelen is a quiet and friendly town. For its size it is perfect to be discovered on foot and enjoy long walks in which slowly you go falling in love with its beautiful canals, the most impressive Cathedral Flanders or picturesque baroque facades. Also, if the sun shines terraces and squares are full of people willing to spend the evening between excellent Belgian beers and rumor talks adorned with Dijle river water.
But also those traveling with children we are very fortunate that Mechelen is "kids friendly" really, designed by and for the enjoyment of the smallest of the house. If you do not believe me, ask Teo who was who accompanied me on this last trip to Flanders.

Routes to discover Mechelen children

Mechelen's fame as the perfect city to travel with children it has been earned. It is not just a stand or a label. For example, it has a mayor and councilors children meet about ten times a year to figure out how to turn this charming city an ideal place for children. The idea has been put urban games throughout the urban area beyond the traditional swings and which are intended for adults and children alike enjoy them, to spend quality time with family.
To make life easier for traveling families, in Mechelen they have designed two perfect routes for fun as you discover its charms. The first is called "Live Mechelen" and is a family guide to play and learn everything there is to know about Mechelen. This booklet (which is in perfect Castilian) is packed with special drawings, fun details and recommendations of families living here for tourists to pass it big and feel at home.

This is different beautifully detailed and entertaining thematic routes: to count, to climb, to water, to rest, to seek, to eat, to listen, to play, to buy ... I assure you that Teo and I spent it as dwarves, We did not have time or blinking. In addition, you can combine with the so-called 'fun package' with which you can taste for free or for very little money 5 Mechelen flavors.
The other route is called "Mechelen you walk sends" a very appropriate title because in this city is a must walk (or bike). With this brochure you can do two very entertaining quests. 'With your feet wet' invites travelers to cross the city along the banks of the river Dijle. 'From A to Z Eagle Thrush' it helps you discover the historic center of the hand of a colorful troupe of animals.

Attractions in Mechelen with children

The offer of places to visit in Mechelen with children is overwhelming, especially when you consider that it is a city that is less than 80,000 inhabitants. Teo and I started with the major challenge of climbing the tower of the Cathedral of St. Rumbolds with 97.5 meters and 538 steps. The effort well worth it as the views from the top are unrivaled, especially its beautiful Grote Markt or the Beguinage. Also he learned that the small bells can also be a musical instrument (Mechelen has one of the most prestigious schools in the world carillon).
Another plan that never fails to kids is to play pirates. This time it was rather the landlubbers, as we decided to catch one of the boats that leave of Lamot-site for a stroll by the river Dijle and watch Mechelen from their channels. What he was thrilled Teo head down after passing through the bridges ... though I doubt that would occur in the head.

Mechelen also has a toy museum of international fame, although the two places that most excite children are Technopolis and Planckendael (of which I will speak more extensively in other articles). In Technopolis you can experiment, play, investigate dozens of amazing technological rigging. You can lift a car off a plane in a simulator or riding a bike on a rope suspended in the air. Planckendael, meanwhile, is a mixture of zoo (with species from all continents) and park with games and lots of fun attractions. You need at least a day to enjoy these two places.
Mechelen is a sweet taste with fun for children, a town really "kids friendly" in which it will be impossible to get bored. Do you dare to get out of the classics and try that unknown praline? you will not regret
